- Just because it's a flower, it does not mean that it is edible
- Make sure that you identify the flower/plant correctly
- If you have pollen allergies be aware you can react to flowers
- No pesticides
- No insecticides
- No synthetic fertilizers
- Amend with compost
- Do not pick flowers off the side of the road or near a parking lot
- Do not eat flowers from florist or floral department
- Pick flowers early in the morning, after the dew has evaporated
- Pick off insects
- Put flowers in a paper bag in fridge for 1-2 hours or place flowers on a moist paper towel and seal in a plastic bag for up to 2 days
- Do not rinse flowers if you will be using in oils or butters
- Remove the "white" part of the petal which is the petal heel; it has a bitter taste
- Remove the stamen and pistils we do not eat the sex organs
- Eat small quantities just like testing new foods for babies
- Taste is very personal
- Be creative; mix and match flowers you like
